Getting Around

Philadelphia is a big city, and as such there are many ways to get around, regardless of your preferred method of travel.

Driving
CityView is easily accessible from various directions, including the Vine Street Expressway/I-676, Kelly Drive, and North and South Broad Street.
NOTE FOR GPS USERS: While CityView’s address is 2001 Hamilton Street, the main entrance is actually on North 20th Street. (Following directions to 2001 Hamilton Street will put you at the back door of the South Tower.) When using GPS, if you enter 512 North 20th Street, it will bring you to our driveway.
Parking
Many of the units at CityView have deeded parking spots, while others do not. Residents who do not have their own parking spot often rent spots on a daily or long-term basis from residents who have spots but are not using them. Much of this activity takes place on the classified ads on Condo Control. More information on CityView parking is available on the Garage Parking and Entrance Roadway Parking pages.
For those who do not own and cannot rent spots, there are other nearby garages and lots that are available for use. Metered street parking is also available on the surrounding streets. Resident parking permits for the metered spots are available from the Philadelphia Parking Authority for cars with Pennsylvania plates and registered at your CityView address; otherwise, meters can be paid either at kiosks or by using the meterUP Parking smartphone app.
Bicycles
Philadelphia is a very bicycle-friendly city, with bike lanes on many major streets and plenty of nearby trails for long rides. For example, here’s a link to “20+ Scenic Bike Trails in and Around Philadelphia.” More local cycling information is available on the More Resources page.
There is a secure, covered bike room in the garage. Contact Management about reserving a space and complete the Bike Room Registration (Appendix C). The current fee is $25/year.
If you don’t have a bike but still want to take a ride, the Indego Bike Share program offers over 250 stations and 2000+ bikes for rent across the city.
On Foot
Philadelphia is a very walkable city. City Hall is less than a mile away, the Kimmel Cultural Center is less than a mile and a half, and even Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell are less than two miles from here. As with bicycling, if you like long walks (or runs), there are plenty of scenic routes nearby (including the Schuylkill River Trail, which is as close as 3/4 of a mile at it’s nearest point).
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to take a self-guided walking tour, download or print this Historic District of Philadelphia Walking Tour Map.
More local running information is available on the More Resources page.
Taxis and Ride Share
Philadelphia is serviced by the Lyft and Uber ride sharing services.
In addition to ride sharing, traditional taxi service is also available. The services with PPA Certified Medallions are:
  • 215 Get-A-Cab (215-438-2222)
  • Germantown Cab Co (215-438-8888)
  • Philadelphia Taxicab Service Inc. (215-666-6666)
  • Yellow Cab (215-333-3333)
Buses
Municipal bus service is provided by SEPTA (Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority), which can take you pretty much anywhere in the city from stops as close as the corner of Spring Garden and 20th, half a block up from our entrance courtyard. Information on routes, fares, timetables, payment methods, and more are available on the SEPTA website or the SEPTA app.
Long distance bus services are available from Greyhound Bus Services; MegaBus; Trailways; and others.
Local Trains
Two key arteries of the SEPTA system are the Board Street Line (BSL) and the Market-Frankford Line (MFL).
The Broad Street Line is a subway that runs from the Fern Rock Transportation Center at the beginning of North Broad Street and it runs the length of Philadelphia’s central North-South thoroughfare to the NRG (Pattison Avenue) Station – from which it is easy walking distance to the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, which includes Citizens Bank Park (Phillies baseball), Lincoln Financial Field (Eagles football), and the Wells Fargo Center (Seventy-Sixers basketball and Flyers hockey).
The Market-Frankford Line runs as an elevated line from the Frankford Transportation Center in the northeast section of Philadelphia south to Market Street where it goes underground, and then west to the 69th Street Transportation Center. This route provides access to Old City Philadelphia, Independence National Historic Park, The Fashion District, Center City, 30th Street Station, University City, West Philadelphia, the Tower Theater, and more.
Long Distance Trains
SEPTA also provides local and regional train service throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. This provides the opportunity to take a day-trip to areas surrounding Philadelphia, such as Ambler, Ardmore, Bristol, Bryn Mawr, Chestnut Hill, Collingswood & Haddonfield (NJ), Conshohocken, Doylestown, Fort Washington, Glenside, Hatboro/Horsham, Jenkintown, King of Prussia, Lansdale, Media, Narberth, New York City, Norristown, Plymouth Meeting, Swarthmore, Trenton (NJ), Upper Darby, Valley Forge, Wayne, West Chester, or Wilmington (DE). The SEPTA Regional Rail & Rail Transit map can help you plan your trip.
The PATCO (Port Authority Transit Company) line starts at the 15th/16th Street and Locust underground stop and travels through Center City/Old City Philadelphia before crossing the Benjamin Franklin Bridge into New Jersey, with various stops ending in Lindenwold  From there you can transfer to the NJ Transit train system as far east as Atlantic City.
To get to locations throughout New Jersey, NJ Transit runs from nearby 30th Street Station to destinations throughout New Jersey, as far north as New York City and as far east as Atlantic City.
Amtrak trains also regularly arrive and depart from 30th Street Station, taking travelers to destinations throughout the country.
Airport
If you’d rather travel around the country – or beyond – by air, you can head to the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). This “hub to the world” is accessible by car or via SEPTA buses and trains.

No matter where you’d like to travel – for a few hours, a day, a few days, a week, or longer – you can easily get there from CityView. And when you’re done with your travels, all the comfort and amenities of CityView will be waiting to welcome you home!
