Waste Disposal

Living in a high-rise has a number of conveniences, but some everyday tasks become more complicated, like trash disposal. A person in a single-family home, even one in our neighborhood, can dispose almost anything with ease. But the City doesn’t provide trash service for high-rise condominiums, so CityView has to contract with a waste hauler to dispose of our waste, and there are some pitfalls in those contracts.

CityView provides for the disposal of Regular household trash. If you would ordinarily throw an item out in a trash can under your kitchen sink, or in your bathroom, then it is probably regular household trash. These are thngs like food scraps, paper towels, the contents of your vacuum cleaner, etc. These types of waste should be bagged and disposed of via the chute in the trash room. There is no fee for this. Certain items, like batteries, CFL light bulbs, styrofoam blocks, etc. should be disposed of in a different manner even if they fit in a small trash can or waste bin.

CityView also provides Recycling. If you need to dispose of paper, plastics, empty cartons, cardboard or glass you can bring these items to the trash room and place them in the recycling container. Please do not place your recycling in a plastic bag. All items that previously had food/liquids should be rinsed thoroughly before recycled. Items like pizza boxes, that get greasy are not recyclable. Large boxes must be broken down and left next to the can so it leaves room for other items. If you need to bring recycling to the dumpsters, please contact the front desk.

Bulk Items/Furniture: If you have any items that are not household trash that you wish to dispose of, follow the instructions below. These items include electronics, small and large appliances, furniture, rugs, home decor, pretty much anything that isn’t regular household trash or recycling as previously defined.

  1. Contact Theo via email to inform him of what you are disposing of:
    $30 per generic bulk item
    $55 per mattress/box spring
    $80 per sofa
  2. Bring cash or check down to the office prior to reserving and utilizing the freight elevator
Check made payable to CityView Condominium Association (North Tower) or CityView II Condominium Association (South Tower)
  3. Theo will provide you with a sticker to place on your item that signifies to our team that you have paid the fee.
  4. Schedule the freight elevator with the front desk
    Monday through Friday 9AM-5PM
  5. Bring your item down to the loading dock and leave it inside the loading dock. Place the sticker on the item you are disposing and our janitorial or maintenance staff will bring it oustide for pick-up.
No bulk items or anything except recycling/household trash should be left inside of the trash rooms.

Please, don’t bring anything down to the loading dock or put any items into a dumpster. Our trash goes through a compactor to reduce its volume (which is how we are billed for disposal.) If you need help, please call the management office or the front desk for assistance or guidance,

The costs for the disposal of bulk items are charged to CityView by our trash hauler and passed on to those who benefit from the service. Waste Management, our trash hauler, will charge CityView penalties for improper disposal of items and overages if the amount of waste exceeds the size of the dumpster. Financial sanctions will apply if bulk items are disposed of without making arrangements, and potentially for use of the freight elevator without a reservation or authorization or outside of approved hours. While this may seem extreme, understand that if a resident disposes of such items without paying for it, all of the residents pay for it.
